Walmart revealed on Thursday, in a new move intended to make its Walmart+ membership more enticing, it's partnering with one of the most popular fast food chains, Burger King. As per the press release, Walmart+ members, who subscribe either yearly for $98 or monthly at $12.95, will now be able to secure a 25% discount on any digital order from Burger King. As an additional perk, starting this September, members will also be eligible to receive a free Whopper every quarter with any purchase.
“Our alliance with Burger King is a thrilling addition to our Walmart+ membership program,” Venessa Yates, SVP and GM of Walmart+, stated. “This particular advantage aligns perfectly with our dedication to providing our members with undeniable value and convenience. We are confident that our members will greatly appreciate this new savings boost, and we're enthusiastic to collaborate with Burger King, a brand we trust, to offer this benefit.”
In regards to why it chose Burger King over other fast-food chains, Walmart shed light on this decision by stating that its selection of benefits is based on insights from its members and are handpicked to offer a singular and valuable experiences. Importantly, this new benefit will not incur any additional fees for the members.
Pat O'Toole, the Chief Marketing Officer of Burger King North America spoke about how the collaboration aligned with their principle of offering great products at value prices, a philosophy shared by Walmart. He proclaimed, "We are thrilled to become part of the Walmart+ program as their first-ever dining partner and look forward to delivering even more savings on our fire-grilled favorites at Burger King to the Walmart+ community."
Walmart+ members can avail of this newest benefit through the app or the Burger King website. After linking their Walmart+ to their Royal Perks account that they can create for free if needed, members just need to select their preferred Burger King location in the BK App and apply the discount to their order.
This collaboration not only extends benefits to the Walmart+ customer base but could bolster business for Burger King, that has been strategizing to draw customers back. In August, reports showed that sales in quarter two had slightly fallen, with parent company Restaurant Brands disclosing a 0.1% dip. J Patrick Doyle, the executive chairman stated, "It's not yet clear when we'll see the category strengthen." Nevertheless, the partnership with Walmart+ and the potential influx from its 59 million members, might help revive Burger King's business.
