Taco Bell Revamps Night-Time Snacking with Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupa
- Apr 10, 2025
Night-time munchies just got a whole lot crunchier and cheesier, thanks to Taco Bell. The fast-food chain announced its latest creation, the revamped Cheddar Chalupa, and you can't wait to try it-The Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupa.
According to Taco Bell's release, the new creation combined the fan-favorite Cheesy Street Chalupas from last year and the original Toasted Cheddar Chalupa. "The street taco is a significant culinary symbol that is grounded on robust flavor and superior ingredients. The Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas celebrate this ethos while introducing a one-of-a-kind Taco Bell twist for a flavor-packed mouthful," commented Luis Restrepo, Taco Bell’s vice president of product innovation.
The latest addition is a tasty mashup of a fried, cheese-dipped tortilla packed with marinated steak, onions, cilantro, and lavishly topped with Chile Lime Crema. This creamy, tangy dip packs lime, chile peppers, garlic, parmesan, and Romao.
Restrepo exclaimed, "Our fans unanimously loved the crispy, cheesy bite of the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa in 2019, and now we're enhancing that street-inspired culinary delight. It's just the type of revival our fans have been longing for."
Today, you can get your hands on the Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas. But remember, like all great things, they’re only here for a limited run. They’re retailing in a two-pack for $5.49, with the option of grilled Cantina chicken or marinated steak. You can alternatively indulge in this deep-fried treasure in the $9 Discovery Luxe Box, which throws in two of them, one Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Taco, one crunchy taco, cinnamon twists, and a medium-size fountain drink.
So, what makes a Chalupa? Simply put, it's a fried tortilla folded into a curved shape, forming an ideal holder for steak and other fillings. Taco Bell describes it as a menu item that "mysteriously combines chewy and crispy." You can enjoy the Chalupa Supreme, a deep-fried taco minus the crispy cheese coating, all year round.
If this rings a bell, you have great memory: Taco Bell initially introduced the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa back in 2019. It quickly became a hit among the late-night foodies who have been incessantly pleading for its comeback on social media. The chain began trialing the refreshed batch of Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas in Houston last August, clearly a successful test. Early this month, Taco Bell announced the nationwide rolling out of the Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupa-along with a handful of other tempting new dishes-at its annual Live Más convention.
Street tacos have always marked the coming of spring bloom. While Taco Bell's version might not follow the traditional recipe, it still sounds irresistible.
