Burger King, the global fast-food chain synonymous with its signature burgers, is venturing beyond its comfort zone. The company has announced trials for an exciting new range of chicken sandwiches and wraps in an attempt to expand its current menu offerings.

Starting June 6, customers in Omaha, Nebraska, and Huntsville, Alabama, will have a chance to experience Burger King's new selection of Flame-Grilled Chicken Sandwiches and Wraps. According to a company spokesperson, eager customers will be given the opportunity to sample the Classic, Fiery, Bacon and Swiss Royal Crispy chicken sandwiches made with flame-grilled chicken breast. The customers also have the alternative to swap the standard crispy white meat chicken in the Royal Crispy Wraps with a half flame-grilled chicken breast, for a refreshing offering.

Flame-Grilled Royal Crispy Wraps will also be up for grabs in a variety of flavors – Classic, Fiery, Honey Mustard, Philly, Fiery Bacon, and Bacon and Cheddar.

Like other fast-food outlets, Burger King typically tests new menu items in specific smaller markets to collate consumer feedback and evaluate the potential for a broader audience. For instance, in 2019, Burger King launched a trial of Impossible Whoppers, plant-based burgers, at a mere 59 outlets in St. Louis. Currently, this offering is available in participating Burger King eateries across the country.

On the flip side, not all test runs result in a nationwide launch. In 2021, Burger King trialed plant-based nuggets for a limited period in Des Moines, Iowa, Boston, Massachusetts, and Miami, Florida. Burger King North America's chief marketing officer, Ellie Doty, celebrated the initiative as the first by a "global quick-service restaurant brand." Unfortunately, the market did not demand another plant-based option.

Earlier in 2022, an everything-seasoned bun and an "Everything Menu" were tested in Huntsville, Alabama, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. The "Everything Menu" featured an Everything Whopper, an Everything BK Royal Crispy Chicken Sandwich, and an Everything Breakfast Sandwich. However, broader appeal evaded these innovations as well, yet, fans wait in anticipation of a revival.

As Burger King continues to experiment, the introduction of these exciting new sandwiches and wraps suggests a commitment to menu evolution and innovation. By stepping outside their burger bordered comfort zone, Burger King positively welcomes a wider audience with diverse palates and choices.
