Whole Foods Market, renowned for its Berry Chantilly cake, has treated us to much more than this delicacy in their bakery section. This vanilla cake, filled with fresh berries and layered with mascarpone whipped cream, took the internet by storm last year. Whether you wanted a full cake or just a slice, Whole Foods had you covered. However, in a shock for its fan base, the Berry Chantilly cake was nearly discontinued, only to be saved by the public's outcry on social media platforms.

Content creator, Lisa Younes sounding the alarm on the potential discontinuation of the cake was the spark that ignited a social media uproar. Whole Foods had altered the pre-sliced Berry Chantilly cakes, replacing fresh berries with raspberry jam in an effort to standardize the cake across all outlets, according to a statement given to the New York Times. Thanks to strong reactions they received from their customers, they promptly reinstated the original, berry-filled option.

The Berry Chantilly cake saga has drawn attention to the culinary delights offered in the Bakery section of Whole Foods. Beyond cakes, the bakery serves up a range of delicious breads, ready-to-bake offerings, and delectable pastries. Undeniably, deciding which is the best offering could be a challenge so we decided to take the bull by its horns and conduct a taste test.

Our taste test involved trying as many bakery items as possible, grading them on taste and the possibility of a repeat purchase. After this scrumptious endeavor, five items stood out.

Whole Foods’ Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookies, made from pre-made dough, were a hit. Available in bags of four, eight large or eighteen mini cookies, the ready-to-bake dough offers a chocolate-filled bite every time. Our editors sang praises of its crispy exterior, gooey interior, and the rich, toasty flavor from the browned butter. Freshly baked, these cookies are undoubtedly superior to the pre-baked version at $6 for a pack of four dough pieces.

While we were tempted to label Berry Chantilly cake over-hyped, we were won over by its fluffy texture, fresh berries, and whipped cream frosting. The cake, resembling angel food cake, was lauded as a classic and priced affordably across various sizes, including an 8-inch, 6-inch, 4-inch, or by-the-slice.

Whole Foods’ raw croissants are another delightful find. Delectably buttery and impressively fresh for a store-bought item, these croissants are an excellent alternative to mainstream brands. A box of four retails for $6.

Leaning towards the unassuming, the plain sugar-covered scones at Whole Foods, are surprisingly soft, buttery and biscuity despite appearances. Show your plain scone some love with butter and jam or a dip into your morning coffee, costing you $3.50 for a single serving.

Finally, their ready-to-bake cinnamon rolls, complete with cream cheese frosting and presented in a convenient disposable oven-proof pan, are definitely worth the try. As one editor noted, "It tastes professionally handcrafted." Retailing at $9 for four cinnamon rolls and icing, it's a definite must-try.

Whole Foods’ bakery delights go well beyond the Berry Chantilly cake that initially caught our attention, emphasizing that there's something delicious for everyone's palate.
