Pabst Brewing Company Celebrates 180 Years with Special 180-Pack of Beer
- Jun 13, 2024
The famed Pabst Brewing Company, best known for Pabst Blue Ribbon, came into existence back in 1844 in Milwaukee. The founder was a German emigrant, Jacob Best, Sr. He, along with his sons, managed the brewery for a prosperous decade, and several other Best family members oversaw the business even later. Eventually, in the mid-1860s, Frederick Pabst, a steamship captain, acquired a part of this brewery. As the remaining Bests sold their shares, this thriving business eventually took on the name Pabst Brewing Company in 1889.
Fast forward to today, the company is marking its milestone 180th birthday. To commemorate this significant occasion, the brewing giant has issued a mind-boggling beer 180-pack. A total of 2,500 of these enormous packs were produced, which each hold roughly 17 gallons or 2160 ounces of beloved brew.
Rachel Keeton, Pabst Brewing's Marketing Director, shared with Forbes: “This limited 180 pack is a way for us to celebrate a significant milestone in Pabst history - our 180th anniversary.” She added, “Our fans get really excited about these large promo packs, so we always try to bring something exciting or new to market.”
Enthusiasts of the brand will find each 180-pack a treasure trove, adorned with illustrations showcasing Pabst's rich heritage. This includes the brand’s superhero-esque mascot Cool Blue, an image of Frederick Pabst himself, and nods to its brief dalliance into cheese production during Prohibition (Yes, they made a cheddar product named Pabst-ett in the 1920s!).
Pabst is no stranger to releasing oversized beer packages in grand fashion. In 2019, a 99-pack of PBR was unleashed across 15 states, selling out in certain stores in less than 24 hours. In a 2021 promo, it rolled out a 1,776-can pack to mark the spirit of America. This gargantuan pack, equating to 24 cases of beer, was gifted to four of its associates, including Igloo Coolers, a Michigan-based band, a stand-up comic, and a skateboarding podcast team. Pushing the envelope even further, in 2022, it released a 1,844-pack celebrating its own foundation year. With only 250 of these mammoth cases made, each was sold at a suggested price of $849.99.
Given this audacious trend, their recent 180-pack release seems modest in comparison. Nonetheless, the robust legacy it celebrates reassures the brand's fans of further exciting times ahead.
