Anne Hathaway has always been someone you can trust, whether it's about fashion or desserts. The internationally acclaimed actress has frequently shared her love for desserts in interviews. It's not surprising when one considers the delight and indulgence associated with desserts.

In a recent episode of the Knead to Know podcast, hosted by chef Gemma Stafford, Ami Shukla, and Tianna Cohen, they reviewed Hathaway's wisdom on selecting and enjoying dessert. The actress's innovative, and sometimes controversial, dessert tips from interviews with Stephen Colbert and Kelly Clarkson are well worth considering.

During her chat with Clarkson last month, Hathaway addressed the common restaurant dilemma of ordering envy: when you wish you had asked for what your dining companion ordered instead of your own choice. Hathaway's solution is charmingly pragmatic and devilishly decadent, "Order both! Dessert is not the time to say no". If you're stuck choosing between say, a chocolate cake and a plum tart, her advice is to actually order both.

She notes that most folks eye the dessert order with interest, even if they were initially wavering about ordering anything sweet after dinner. As soon as the gelati, pies, or other sweet delights hit the table, everyone wants in, so her advice is to share the love and order all the desserts that pique your interest.

A somewhat contentious piece of advice Hathaway shared pertains to a restaurant's bread service. She proposes that if a restaurant cannot serve good bread, it casts doubt on the quality of its other baked goods, including desserts. The hosts from Knead to Know suggest that this might not strictly be the case, as the bakeries supplying bread might not necessarily be responsible for the desserts. Still, the sentiment of judging an establishment by its bread has a certain rustic charm to it.

One of Hathaway's most viral dessert tips is her technique for consuming cupcakes. In another interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Hathaway demonstrates separating the cupcake into two halves, then sandwiching the frosting between the top and bottom layers. Hathaway claims this technique prevents frosting from smearing on your face, and adds a casual flair to enjoying cupcakes. This approach also moderates the sweetness, ensuring a balanced mouthful of cake and frosting.

Hathaway's dessert acumen goes beyond just ordering and enjoying. She also stresses that understanding desserts comes with practice, and she's admittedly put in her hours. Whether it's identifying sauces or judging the balance of flavors in a dessert, Hathaway's expertise illuminates the often overlooked details of dessert appreciation. Hathaway's dedication to this delicious discipline is truly inspiring.

Lastly, and somewhat whimsically, Hathaway reflects on a line from her Princess Diaries' character, Mia Thermopolis. In a scene where Princess Mia experiences a brain freeze from a palate-cleaning mint sorbet during a state dinner, Hathaway hints at the value of palate cleansers. It's a wonderful reminder of how fresh, clean flavors can set the stage for appreciating the dessert to follow.

With such wisdom shared by none other than Anne Hathaway, ordering and enjoying desserts might soon become a delightful dining experience in its own right.
