The Shrimp Fra Diavolo, an Italian-American treasure that's as interesting as its history, offers a palette of bold flavors to seafood lovers. The name Fra Diavolo translates to "brother devil" from Italian, a unique nickname of a rebellious child who spearheaded a revolution against French occupants.

This dish involves a scintillating, spicy tomato sauce that brims with fresh shrimp, though feel free to toss in any shellfish that you prefer. The Fra Diavolo sauce contrasts slightly with its cousin, the Arrabiata sauce. While both are deliciously spicy and tomato-based, the Arrabiata sauce has a thicker consistency and is typically served over pasta. The Fra Diavolo, on the other hand, is slightly thinner due to the addition of seafood and can be enjoyed atop pasta or just with bread or polenta.

Making a Fra Diavolo is not only easy but is also a hands-on experience! Plunge your hand into a can of tomatoes and squeeze them or simply transfer them to a bowl for the same process, don’t worry, it’s fun! Better yet, you can prepare the tomato sauce up to two days in advance and refrigerate. Just heat it up, add the shrimp, and serve it for a quick, flavorful meal.

Prepare your taste buds for an Italian treat with the following ingredients: extra virgin olive oil, yellow onion, garlic cloves, crushed red pepper, tomato paste, a can of peeled plum tomatoes (San Marzano is a great choice), fresh oregano, kosher salt, and large raw shrimp.

Start the cooking process by sautéing onions in oil over medium-high heat until they change colour. Add garlic and crushed red pepper and stir until the aroma fills your kitchen. Add a bit of tomato paste, keep stirring till the colour deepens slightly. Join in the crushed tomatoes along with their juice, a pinch of salt, and a sprinkle of oregano. Cook until the sauce thickens and loses wateriness-about 25 minutes.

Get ready with your shrimp; raise the pan's heat, toss them, and cook them through for about 3 to 4 minutes. Give your Fra Diavolo a final touch with crushed red pepper to your taste, garnish with an oregano sprinkle and lay it atop toasted bread.

Give the Shrimp Fra Diavolo a try-it is a culinary adventure full of zesty and spicy flavours, certain to whip up a delicious storm in your kitchen!
