The timeless allure of a classic Caesar salad is undeniable, but what if that beloved mix of crisp lettuce, crunchy croutons, and tangy dressing could be enjoyed on-the-go? Enter the Caesar-chicken pita wrap!

This delicious construction takes the best elements of a Caesar salad and turns them into an easy-to-eat sandwich. Using pita rounds as a vessel, this unique twist on a classic is filled with grilled chicken, romaine lettuce, homemade croutons, shards of Parmesan crisps, and a savory Caesar dressing that combines anchovies, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice.

While homemade croutons and cheese crisps bring a special edge to the wrap, store-bought alternatives can also be used to save time. A key ingredient of a traditional Caesar is romaine lettuce, which should be fresh, firm and light green. The dressing screams flavors; the garlic minced, not to overpower, and the anchovies finely cut so they dissolve into the mix, creating a purely mouth-watering dressing.

Though the recipe suggests grilling, the chicken can also be baked. Preheat your oven to 375°F, then bake the chicken until it reaches a minimum internal temperature of 165°F, usually about 20 to 30 minutes. To warm the pitas, simply pop them in the preheated oven for about five minutes.

The dressing can be simplified by using pre-made mayonnaise. You can whisk in the Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and anchovies, but if you're not a fan of anchovies, doubling the Worcestershire sauce will do the trick. If you're short on cheese crisps, roll your assembled wrap on grated cheese heated on a non-stick skillet for a crispy, Parmesan “skirt".

To make things easier, several elements of this exciting wrap can be made ahead of time. The cheese for the croutons and dressing can be grated up to a week ahead. The chicken can be grilled four days ahead and kept in an airtight container in the fridge. Similarly, the dressing, croutons, and cheese crisps can be prepared up to a week in advance. Assembled wraps can be stored in the fridge, tightly wrapped in plastic, for up to one day – remember to use less dressing on these and serve extra on the side.

Once you've got all your elements ready, it's a simple case of assembly: pile up the romaine lettuce, chicken slices, croutons, and cheese croutons inside the pita, then drizzle generously with dressing. Fold the sides in, secure with a wooden pick, or wrap them up in paper or foil. Just like that, you've got a delicious, handheld Caesar salad, ready to be devoured!
