Get ready to add an extra sprinkle of cheer to your holidays with a novel pasta design by Barilla. The pasta manufacturing giant revealed that they are unveiling a new pasta shape specifically designed for the holiday season, known as Barilla Snowfall.

"Barilla has been uniting families over meals, especially during the festive times, throughout its long-standing history," Angie Cotter, Barilla's U.S. pasta category marketing director declared to Food & Wine magazine. "Being pioneers in creating distinctive pasta shapes since the 60s, Barilla has always seen great enthusiasm for their seasonal contributions, noteworthy among them being the popular Valentine's Day-themed pasta, Barilla Love. We are excited to launch Barilla Snowfall and hope it encourages shared moments and memorable experiences among the loved ones. We are keen on continuing to inject fun in the pasta-eating experience with several more charming shapes in the future."

In actuality, this novelty is a response to a consumer trend. In 2024, Barilla conducted a survey showcasing that almost half (45%) of the U.S. consumers were actively keen on experimenting with various fun pasta shapes, with a significant increase of 54% during the holiday season. So this new holiday-inspired pasta shape is aimed at "capturing the delight that winter snow showers bring each year."

An initial look at the shape may suggest a simple snowflake. However, on careful inspection, it reveals significantly more details. Barilla has ingeniously incorporated heart-shaped and poinsettia-inspired patterns into the design, intending it to be a tribute to its motto, "A Sign of Love".

Barilla indicates that their new Snowfall pasta shape will be a treat for every kind of pasta preparation as it promises a "perfect al dente texture every time." The pasta's intricate snowflake formation is expected to confer a delightful flavor enhancement irrespective of the traditional or innovative recipes it pairs with.

Availability will be exclusive to Walmart stores and on their website in December. However, be advised, this seasonal shape will not be around for long, so be sure to pick up an additional box to stretch out the holiday cheer a bit more.
