Air frying chickpeas is a quick, sumptuous, and protein-filled snack method. They are not only delicious on their own, but they can also add flavor to your green salads, yogurt, and grain salads.

An air fryer allows you to sidestep using your entire oven and simultaneously reduces cooking time. It helps to produce perfectly crispy chickpeas. While simple seasonings such as salt and pepper work well, do not hesitate to experiment with other diverse spices. Consider smoked paprika and cumin if spicy is your preference or cinnamon and sugar for a sweet twist.

The popping sound of chickpeas in the air fryer should not concern you - it's entirely normal. However, remember to be cautious upon extracting them from the machine as they could be extremely hot.

The secret to perfectly crispy chickpeas lies in efficient drying before placing them in the air fryer. This allows the oil to better envelop the chickpeas, yielding a crispier end product. Further, allowing them to rest for around 5 to 10 minutes after cooking enhances their crispiness.

To attain optimum crispness, if time allows, do consider removing the outer skins of the chickpeas. You can either manually peel each one or place the drained and rinsed chickpeas in a dish towel and rub off the skins.

To store, place your crispy chickpeas in an open container on your kitchen counter for up to three days. Avoid airtight containers as they could hasten softening.

Here's a basic recipe:

Air Fryer Chickpeas: A Crisp, Savory Protein Treat

Ingredients: 1 can (15.5-ounce) of chickpeas, drained and rinsed 2 teaspoons of olive oil 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt 1/2 teaspoon of pimentón (or black pepper)

Preheat your air fryer to 400°F. Spread chickpeas on a kitchen towel and pat them dry. Toss chickpeas in a bowl with olive oil, salt, and pimentón. Transfer chickpeas to air fryer basket, ensuring they lay in a single layer.

Air-fry for 10 minutes, shake the basket and stir them, and return them to the fryer. Continue frying until they're crispy and golden brown, which would take an additional 2 to 5 minutes. Let it cool for at least 5 minutes before consumption. Enjoy your crispy chickpeas!
